Piano Performance by Jonathan Duarte at the National Theatre of Costa Rica

On July 17th Costa Ricans and all the other lucky expats and vacationers in Costa Rica will have the privilege to experience a piano performance by Jonathan Duarte at the National Theatre of Costa Rica.

Canadian-Costa Rican pianist, Jonathan Duarte, student of the Tchaikovsky Conservatory college in Moscow, will give a piano concert on July 17 at 8:00 p.m. at the Teatro Nacional, interpreting works of Bach, Chopin, Rachmaninov and Liszt.
Nineteen-year-old Duarte has won eight international competitions in North America and Europe. He has performed in New York, Paris, Rome, Vilnius, Kazan and Moscow. In 2010 and 2011 he received the Manuel Grynspan award in Costa Rica. He is now studying in Russia, under scholarship, at the Central Music School of the Tchaikovsky Conservatory under the tutelage of Dr. Darya Ryabova.
In Costa Rica, he has performed at the Teatro Nacional, Teatro Eugene O’Neill, Auditorio Clodomiro Picado (UNA), along with fund-raising events for the Red Cross Costa Rica, and at the Russian embassy in Costa Rica.
Other presentations have included the Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, Steinway Hall, Merkin Concert Hall, and the Kosciuszko Foundation Auditorium in New York. He has also performed at the Corson Auditorium, Michigan with the Interlochen Philharmonic Orchestra, directed by Kenneth Andrews, director of the Orchestra of Northern New York.
During the intermission of the concert, the III edition of the Manuel Grynspan Award will be presented. This tribute is sponsored by Dr. Devora Grynspan of Northwestern University, Dr. Rebeca Grynspan, Under-Secretary-General of the UNDP, and Dr. Frida Grynspan in honor of their father, the late Manuel Grynspan.
This award is granted in recognition of achievements of young Costa Rican artists. This year, the winners are Ines Guanchez and Carolina Ramirez, both students of the Universidad Nacional and the Instituto Superior de Artes.
